Of all the Buddhist festivals held in Sri Lanka, the Kandy Esala Perahera can be said to be the greatest and most important of all Buddhist festival with a colorful mix. Held every year in the months of July or August, this is a Sri Lankan identity that has attracted local and foreign tourists. A lot of different cultural elements can be seen in the Kandy Esala Perahera, which is held to honor Lord Sri Dalada and the four deities of Natha, Vishnu, Kataragama and Pattini. Dancers, musicians, fire breathers and beautifully decorated elephants are some of the highlights here. You will also be lucky enough to witness the Sri Lankan rituals that mark the beginning and end of the procession.
